The validity of Iran visa on arrival is 30 days, but it can be extended up to 90 days. Every tourist can extend his visa either regardless of nationality or the way of visa issuance.

How much time does the visa extension take?
Based on which city you choose to extend your visa, the whole process may take just a few hours or a day from the moment you turn up at the visa renewal office. To reduce the risk of obtaining the extension at the proper time (before your visa expires) apply a few days before your visa expiry date. Go to the office as early in the morning as you can avoid the potential crowd.
Visa extension requirement
There usually is little difficulty in extending a visa while you are in Iran! In all major cities, you can extend your visa. The process doesn’t have a complicated administrative procedure. You have to go to the Police Department of Aliens Affairs (Edareh Gozarnameh: اداره گذرنامه).
- Passport
- Your current visa
- Two copies of the first page of your passport (ID page)
- Entry stamp
- Any other extensions you’ve had before
- Completed visa form
- Your reason/s for staying
- Visa Extension fee: approximately 10 Euros in cash for 30 days
In some cases, you have to go to the nearest Meli Bank to pay the extension fee. Ask the officers or locals, where the nearest Meli Bank is. When you paid an extension fee, the bank employee will give you a receipt. Please keep it to yourself and return to the office with all the documents. If you were lucky your extended visa would be approved in 15 minutes or a few days after your request.
Where one can extend his/her visa
As mentioned before, everyone can extend his visa almost in all cities (Tehran, Isfahan, Mashhad, Tabriz, Yazd, Shiraz, Rasht, Bandar Abbas and other cities). Based on travelers’ stories, Shiraz bureau could be the best choice, and the Process is much easier than other cities in Iran.
Note: Generally, your visa will be extended based on the number of days you apply in your FIRST visa request.
